Our 2022 season "A summer in the 18th century in the Bessin" has come to an end for this beautiful summer of 2022. 🌞

All these events were a great success with several new animations and we hope that you could enjoy them widely.
We thank all the speakers, partners and volunteers who allowed us to realize our 26 activities. 🕺

We are now preparing the continuation of our approach to the promotion of the 18th century in the Bessin region …. off the beaten track. Do not hesitate to share with us your favorites and your constructive remarks which will allow us to improve. 💡

The whole team of Un Hameau au XVIIIème siècle sends you its greetings on this picture and says to you soon.

Find a summary of our achievements this summer 2022 on this page.

The 18th century hamlet

Our most important event of this summer, which took place from 1 to 7 August 2022.

A new educational, fun and lively event, ideal for families and children. 😃
A good way to cross time and the Atlantic Ocean simply during 7 days. 🌍

Marie-Antoinette's children animations

We proposed for children from 6 to 11 years old an afternoon of playful animations on the theme of the end of the XVIIIth century during the All Saints’ Day vacations.

Her great majesty Marie Antoinette, Queen of France, loved to play with her friends and servants.
As a student guard or lady-in-waiting, the children were amusingly instructed to join her at the King’s court.

The King's Corsairs

An event dedicated to children (and families) supervised by a team of animators involved (the best sailors of these waters).
Children could dive into the era of Robert Surcouff and join his privateer crew on behalf of King Louis XVI.

2 main activities :
* foam sword training and combat (agility and endurance).
* treasure hunt (thinking and team spirit)

A summer in the 18th century (2022)

July 10 / Castle visit and concert in Audrieu

⚜️
At our very first event this summer, we started off nicely with a guided tour of the Château d’Audrieu and a Vocal Concert by Le Cénacle at the church in Audrieu.

The participants were able to enjoy this beautiful weekend. Activities in partnership with the ADTLB.

July 21 / Visit : My village in the 18th century

⚜️
Visit of 4 houses dating from the XVIIIth century during a tour all along the afternoon in Sommervieu. 🏘️

More than a hundred people were welcomed by each of the owners of the domains. And we will strongly remember the entrance in the chapel of the seminary which dazzled us by its splendor. 🪔

July 25 / Conference : Religious communities in the Bessin

⚜️
Our 3rd event of the summer was dedicated to a conference dedicated to the religious communities in the Bessin during the 18th century.

The public joined us in the evening at the abbey of Longues to listen to the research of Father Patrice Turmel. ⛪

July 29 / Visit : From stone to building

⚜️
At first, we met at 2 pm at the quarries of “La Pierre d’Orival” where Mr. Conraud welcomed us in his company.

He explained to us with a lot of culture and passion the extraction of the Creully stone in the 18th century and its characteristics. 🪨

And in a second time, we went to a barn of the castle of Amblie in order to see and understand how the stone was used with the various building trades.

The 18th century was a very prosperous period in the Bessin, a century of great construction, which represents a very great wealth and heritage of our region. 🏡

August 21 / Chouain Concert: Quator Europe

⚜️
To summarize in 3 words : A pure marvel

The group QUATOR EUROPE with Eric FRANCERIES, Eric SOBCZYK and Frédéric BERNARD with the guitars and Igor KIRITCHENKO carried out a splendid concert to us around Vivaldi and the baroque concertos.

The enthusiasm of the public as well as its applause were with the height of the success of this presentation having taken place in the church of Chouain this Sunday August 21, 2022.

August 26 / Musical Conference: Protestantism in the Bessin.

 ⚜️
A very interesting conference was proposed in the church of Saint Marcouf by Axel WEYTENS on the theme “1685-1787: from the Revocation to Tolerance, the Protestants in the Bessin”. And all this accompanied by Louise SABY, cellist, who interpreted works of J.S Bach.

A fascinating intervention of one hour and a half with beautiful exchanges with the public present which filled the church.

September 3 / Visits and Concert: The Secret of Church Altarpieces

 ⚜️
And here is the last animation of the summer 2022. An event in 2 times, mixing stroll in religious historical places and musical ballads:
* A visit around 3 altarpieces in the churches of Rubercy, Bricqueville and Mestry.
* A concert with the Quartet of the Regional Orchestra of Normandy.

A great way to end the day and to conclude this summer in the 18th century. ♫
